On Sat 27th Aug, LCW along with residents and Prasa officials also continued cleaning up and clearing bush along Orient Road, focusing particularly on the railway way line side of the fence between Lakeside station and Uxbridge Road.
We found 4 sleeping places up against the walls and tucked behind all the dense bush in the area we cleared, so this highlights where vagrants are sleeping, literally on the other side of residents boundary walls.
An immense amount of litter was also removed.
We also focused on the area at the Vlei Road railway crossing, where dense bush had enclosed the area, causing perfect hideouts for criminals to wait and mug residents, char workers.
Sadly during July and Aug, this has happened twice.
JL Treefall spent most of their donated day moving up and down Orient Road, chipping up all the cuttings. This made the area much neater and we thank them very much for their contribution.
They also advised us they will return in a week or two’s time to trim the bush further in the higher areas we could not reach which will allow street lights to throw their light fully on the area, instead of being concealed by the trees.
Thanks to James Morom for hiring a big trailer and taking several trips to the dump to remove all the litter.
We would have loved to have completed the area, but because the bush is so dense and limited manpower, it takes time to clear this.
We had 3 chainsaws, yet this was not enough to get this task done.
We will notify residents in due course when our next cleanup will be, and hope to see you there to improve the safety and security in these areas.
We would like to also highlight to residents that Orient road is not the only road or area we wish to clean and clear, so if residents dont live near Orient road and feel well this is not where i live, please note, LCW will be doing other areas as well, so the more help we can get from residents, the quicker we can get to other areas, for example, Rutter Road, end of Spinnacker Road, Boyes Drive, Old Boyes Drive, Orient Road south of Uxbridge Road to name a few.
Please help us help you, by making our areas more safe and secure, so that we can take those walks and apprecaite the beautiful surroundings in Lakeside and Zandvlei.
Thank you to all LCW Team members for your and efforts to make Sat a sucess.
