Alarms can save more than just your stuff

Just thought we’d drop Residents an informational to encourage you if you haven’t already done so, to please install alarms in your homes.

We understand decent alarms can be quite pricey and are a “grudge purchase”, however one cannot put a price on the lives of our family.
Criminals are becoming more brazen, often taking drugs like Mandrax, Tik or similar, before committing a crime, making them fearless.
People being home is becoming less of a deterant these days, so an alarm plays a vital role in keeping you safe.

Besides installing an alarm, do you have the following features enabled on your alarm system if it allows?

1. Disable the delay period when arming your alarm and rather fit a remote control arming feature.
This means that should your front door be opened (crowbarred) the alarm goes off immediately and no 30sec or more delay before the alarm activates and then only is the activation sent through to SSP Control Room.

2. Enable the STAY feature, which you can use to keep Garages, outbuildings Armed even whilst you are home.
This means install sensors in these areas as well.

3. Garden Beams are an early warning system, which can sound an alarm before they’ve even attempted to breakin as they approach the building.
Be sure to keep these sensors clean, dry, and free of ants.

4. Enable the SLEEP function on your alarm, which enables the areas not occupied, to be armed and only bedrooms occupied, disarmed.
This gives you peace of mind that whilst you sleep, at least the rest of the home is protected, and helps that little bit more to get a better nights sleep.

5. Remote Panic Buttons, are great to keep with you whilst on the property, using this in emergancies.

Test your alarm systems thoroughly, and ensure your SSP is actually receiving the activations. Should they not receive the activation, it basically renders your alarm useless.
Ensure your alarm battery is also checked which ensures that even if the power goes off, your property is still protected.
If the battery is on its way out, it’s supposed to send a warning to the SSP Control Room as well, so have these properly checked.

By having an alarm, you have a better chance of your insurance company paying out as well, as often, only once you’ve had a breakin, do you discover that your insurance has a whole lot of clauses.
Be sure to check these clauses and make changes accordingly.

We certainly hope All on this group don’t fall victim to these crimes, but as crime is on the increase and we head into the busy “Christmas Shopping Period”, the possibility increases a lot.

Another way to secure your area, is to either get involved and support your Neighbourhood Watch (NHW), whether it be financially, or physically in some way.
The push to form NHWs is growing daily, and if an area doesn’t have one, that area becomes a serious victim of crime!

Be safe everyone!
